Why should you wall mount your TV?
Having your television mounted on a wall has several benefits including the following.
- Improved viewing angle. Since you can mount your TV as high or low as you want, you can mount it just right for your situation, instead of being stuck with however high the cabinet it normally rests on is.
- Safety. A TV is a big, heavy, and awkward item that can easily be tipped over by pets or kids, causing damage to the TV and the ones you love. By securely mounting it to the wall, it can no longer be knocked over. Plus, you can get it up higher off the ground so kids can’t mess with it.
- It saves a ton of space. This is especially true if you have a really big TV. You don’t need to waste your living room space on huge entertainment centers anymore. All you need to purchase is a wall mount, a TV, and if you want great sound, a quality sound bar.
- Adjustability. In some cases, you may want to change the viewing angle of the TV. By using an articulating wall mount, you can easily swivel your TV back and forth so you can watch it from any angle or part of the room.
- Security. A properly mounted TV is more difficult to steal in the event of a burglary. Usually not a big concern, but it’s still a nice benefit.
- It just looks better. There’s just something classy about a well-mounted TV.
What kind of TV wall mount do you need?
- You’ll need to know the screen size and weight of the tv. In most cases, weight isn’t an issue, especially if you purchased a newer TV. But, it’s good to know anyway.
- What features are you looking for? The most basic mounts will have a tilt adjustment, which means they can tilt up or down. Other options include an articulating arm which allows you to pull the TV further away from the wall and then turn the tv from side to side to change the viewing angle. Other options are just mounted flat to the wall, which is nice if you want the TV as close to the wall as possible. In most cases, all you need is a flat mount or a tilt mount.
- Where will the tv be mounted? The most common place to mount a TV is in the living room. One common place is above the fireplace. However, you can mount a tv just about anywhere such as in a corner, behind a bar, underneath your kitchen cabinets, or even in the bathroom.
- What surface will you be mounting to? Most mounts come with an assortment of wall fasteners so you can attach to anything from drywall to cement. Make sure the mount you get has the correct fasteners. All mounts have the ability to attach to drywall.
- Cost. If you buy your mount locally, you can expect to pay about a hundred bucks for a mount. But, you can save a lot of money by shopping on Amazon. For larger, heavier TVs, you can spend up to $200 on an articulating mount.
