Gate & Fence Repair

Whether your fence has blown over or you just need a simple repair to the gate, you’ve found the right place! As a handyman in Brandon, I’ve fixed many fences and would love to help you get your fence back in order.

Broken fence post

You’ll know you have a broken fence post (or more) if your fence has either fallen over or moves easily when you push on it.

The most common cause of a broken fence post is wood rot. Sprinklers, rain, flooding, and other moisture can get trapped around the base of the fence post, causing the wood to rot over time. As this happens, the posts get weaker and eventually break. After it reaches a certain point, it just takes a strong gust of wind, and down goes the fence.

There are a couple of ways to repair this. You can either have me replace the fence post completely by digging out the old post, setting a new post in concrete, and then rebuilding the section that blew over. Or I can install a post mender.

The fence is unstable (it moves when you push on it)

If you can walk up to your fence and move it more than 1 or 2 inches, then it’s likely that a fence post has rotted out and is no longer supporting the fence.  This is essentially the same thing as a broken fence post, your fence just hasn’t blown over yet.

Broken or loose fence boards

Here is another common issue that I run into. This is relatively easy and you are likely to be able to complete this repair on your own. Simply go to your local home improvement store, pick up a couple of replacements and some nails or screws and attach the new fence boards. Easy! Or, go to the contact page, request a quote, and I’ll be happy to help you out.

The gate is sagging or dragging on the ground

Just like doors, gates need regular maintenance in order to function properly. However, sometimes they are just built wrong, to begin with. Either way, sagging gates are a common issue that you don’t have to live with. Most of the time reinforcing the gate with a cross member and some screws is more than enough to solve the issue. Occasionally, however, the gate may need to be rebuilt in order to function properly.

The gate won’t latch

As fences are exposed to harsh weather and the changing seasons, they tend to move around as the wood expands and contracts. This can cause the gate to become misaligned and therefore not allow the gate to latch.

Repairing this issue can be as simple as moving the latch or adjusting the gate appropriately.
